Lida Bates, LCSW-C
Owner and principal therapist
(she, her, hers)
I am a therapist licensed and based in the state of Maryland. I was born in Baltimore, where I raised my daughter and still live today. When I was younger, I thought I wanted a career in medicine so I completed medical school and a residency in preventive medicine as well as a Master’s degree in epidemiology. I later realized that I wanted to continue working in the health sphere, but in a different capacity. I received my Master’s of Social Work from the University of Maryland School of Social Work and began my new career. From mobile treatment clinics to hospital outpatient departments, I have worked in a wide variety of mental health settings.
I began my private practice so I can better harness my own strengths, pursue my professional interests and help a wider audience. I love my work and feel passionately about making quality mental health treatment accessible to all.
I support BIPOC, LGTBQ+, and trans rights and stand in solidarity with these communities. My practice is a safe, inclusive space for members of all marginalized communities. I actively work to address my own privilege in my practice and to educate myself on issues of systemic oppression to better support my clients of all identities and backgrounds in their mental health journeys.
In my free time, I enjoy gardening, collecting succulents, and spending time in nature.

My Approach
I use an integrated approach that draws from several different methodologies, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, trauma focused, internal family systems and person-centered. When relevant, I utilize my medical background for additional insight. As your therapist, it is my goal to empower you to draw from your own life experiences and strengths to find a stronger sense of clarity, freedom, and independence.
